February, the month of love, or from another perspective a Hallmark Holiday. Which ever point of view you take, Valentine’s Day is around the corner and we have some ideas for you lovebirds and for you fabulous singles! The important thing is it is a holiday and gives us all a reason to celebrate, right? Right! This year make it a day to remember.

Starting with you lovebirds, the ultimate question: what do I get him or her? A card, the old-fashioned symbol of Valentine’s Day is always a start. However, unless you find one in the store that catches your eye, it is always wonderful to receive a hand-made card. Not Martha Stewart inclined? Well check out Papyrus for some truly unique cards, and if Papyrus is not in the cards for you, there is of course Hallmark and Target! Now that I have given Hallmark a little credit, don’t just stop with a card!

Gentlemen, for most ladies flowers are always an excellent choice. Red roses can get pricey and tend to fly off the shelves around this holiday, so place your order early or be different. Since flowers are not blooming in the gardens right now, create a bouquet at your local florist consisting of multi-color roses, peonies, lilies, or gerber daises…better yet, get your lady’s favorite bloom if they have it available. Ladies, pick up something your guy would appreciate. It doesn’t have to be extravagant, unless you want it to be. It could be tickets to a game, the new video game he’s been dying to get, or cologne. Just be creative, and remember that it is the thought that counts! Still not convinced?

Chocolate, a delicious treat that can be received in a pretty box, and almost all ladies and gentlemen melt over it. Pick up a box at your local chocolate shop to give your love a sweet surprise. Other sweet treats are also a great idea! Cupcakes, rice-crispy treats, or your dear’s favorite cookie are also great Valentine’s Day gift ideas. Being single doesn’t mean you can’t indulge also! Ladies, get your girlfriends together and have a chocolate fondue and champagne party!

Now, for the date itself. A romantic candlelit dinner is always a fail-proof idea! Reservations are not required if you two make dinner at home, just add candles for some mood lighting. If you are spending the whole day together, do something outdoors like go hiking and bring along a bottle of wine, or set up a picnic in a park. Looking to wind down? Then spend the day at a spa for a couple’s massage or other relaxation treatments. Call around for some Valentine’s Day Specials, but be sure to make your reservation in advance. Feeling a little creative? Take a pottery or painting class together. For all you singles out there, get your friends together and throw a party! Or get dressed up and go out for dinner and dancing with a few close friends. Just have fun!

Whatever you do or whatever you get as a gift, just remember it’s all about the person or people you spend the day with so make it a memorable one!
